How do I book an appointment?
You can see the therapist’s availability and can book appointments online through the “Book Online” page or contact billing@integrativetherapy.center to set up a recurring appointment.
What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
To reward a client’s commitment to the therapy process and as a protective measure for the therapist’s time, when you sign up for therapy with ITC, you agree to the following terms:
You are committing to a weekly or biweekly (every other week) time slot. The therapist will set a consistent time aside for you until you discontinue therapy.
You can discontinue therapy at any time for any reason.
There is a charge of $150 for cancellations or rescheduling that provide less than a 24-hour notice.
Cancellation fee will be waived if a session can be rescheduled by phone or in the office within 2 business days of the missed session. This is subject to the therapist’s availability.
What if I can’t commit to a consistent weekly or biweekly schedule?
You can choose not to be on a consistent weekly or biweekly schedule and assume a “floater” status. A weekly slot will not be held for you, and because of this, session availability is not guaranteed.
As a “floater,” you assume responsibility for booking your sessions every week. The fee of $150 still applies for less than a 24-hour notice of cancellation.
Please note that assuming “floater” status in the schedule is clinically inappropriate for some clients just beginning therapy. We can discuss this more during our intake session.
Is teletherapy available?
Do you offer EMDR therapy over Zoom?
If you are coming in specifically seeking EMDR therapy, be prepared to come to the office for at least the first two processing sessions.
Before we do EMDR as teletherapy, we need to make sure this is a modality that is a good fit for you and that you will have mechanisms in place to increase your comfort and safety while processing your trauma.
With what ages do you work?
What do I need to know before starting therapy?
How often will therapy happen?
This depends on your preference and need. Most clients begin with a weekly 45-minute session and then transition to a schedule that meets every other week.
Some have a lot to process and need to start with twice per week to accelerate the process of change.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
Only for about 6 to 8 years. Just kidding… This depends on various factors, but a short answer is that you will help determine if you need to be in therapy based on your progress toward your own goals.
In our practice, we believe therapy is most effective when you feel committed and involved in the process. If we hit a plateau or a wall, we will re-evaluate our strategies and your need to be in therapy.
Most clients begin to experience changes in the first month and reach a better place within a year of treatment. After they reach a better place, many clients enjoy keeping the relationship with the therapist going through a bi-weekly cadence to continue to stay on track and explore their unfolding life more deeply.
What modalities of psychotherapy do you use at ITC?
How do I know what modality of therapy is best for me?
How do I know if therapy is working?
You are the expert regarding your progress. However, our inner critics tend to be the harshest when directed at ourselves. You might not always notice when changes are already happening. Once you have worked with your therapist to set realistic and attainable goals, you will examine those goals to check on how far you have come and what areas still need your attention.
Your therapist’s perspective will complement yours and tell the full story of the gains that you have made. When therapy is working, people tend to feel like they have a greater grasp of their situation, feel increased acceptance toward the things they can’t control, and gain clarity about the available choices.
Many clients feel better equipped to deal with the challenges that life is throwing at them, and most have greater compassion for themselves and others. Some feel more invigorated and begin to take actionable steps toward a new way of life.
If you do not feel like therapy is working for you, please bring it up to your therapist for further discussion.
Do you assign homework?
Can individual therapy transition into couples or family therapy and vice versa?
Yes. Couples therapy can transition into individual therapy and vice versa.
There are ethical considerations that need to be made on a case-by-case basis, and generally speaking, once you transition from individual therapy to couples therapy or vice versa, you will not be able to “switch back.”
Are you available through email/text or for emergency calls in the time between our sessions?
Each therapist at Integrative Therapy Center has their own policy on this. Generally, text and email will only be used to arrange scheduling and billing concerns. The more personal content of therapy will be kept for the session work.
You can schedule emergency sessions and same-day calls with your therapist at their discretion and availability. Even though we will do our best to maintain prompt communication with our clients, therapists at ITC cannot provide immediate responses after hours.
If you are having a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or the mental health support hotline in your area.
